Brainstorming writing is an excellent source for writers to draw on new ideas. When writers have writing blocks', brainstorming helps to release the flow of ideas.

When a writer uses this type of writing they often will sit down with a piece of paper and write down whatever comes to mind. They may use one sheet or several depending on how well the flows of ideas are coming.

Writers who use this type of writing to help with choosing topics or to fully understand the potential of the topic they are writing about.

Writers need to take advantage of their natural thinking process. They use their brains energy creating a storm of ideas. They turn those ideas into articles, novels, screenplays, website content, etc.

When writers do not have enough information, they use a brainstorming writing technique that uses a diagram and the topic. Branches are created from the topic to create subtopics which creates more ideas. There are times when brainstorming writing also helps when the writer has too much information. Too much information can cause a lot of chaos in their brains. Brainstorming writing can put that chaos into order by forcing the chaos and random thinking to literally rain out onto the page. This gives writers actual concrete ideas that can be put into order.

Brainstorming writing can be used to break topics down into several levels beginning with the topic, then the subtopic, then a single term that has the tendency to be overused. Quite often writers fall into the habit of using words or phrases too often and by using this technique will reveal that overused word or phrase.

News reporters and journalists use a technique that uses the "big six" questions. The six are who?, what?, when?, where?, why?, and how? They proceed to answer these questions and arrange it so that is flows with the topic. All writers follow the same questions adapting it to there particular style and topic of writing. It is just a natural part of their brainstorming writing process.

When brainstorming writing a technique called listing and bulleting is often used. The writer will make a list regarding the topic. Then make another list with phrases that are related, questions, sources and keywords. Then using each one, they will create another list. They will continue to do this until they have run out of ideas.

Brainstorming writing can make use of cubing which is looking at a topic from six different sides. Writers will make a list of the six ways, which are describe it, compare it, associate it, analyze it, apply it and argue the pros and cons. Then they will look for connections or notice if a theme is appearing.

Writers use many brainstorming writing techniques on a daily basis. Other techniques are created by the writers themselves merely because it is has always been effective at producing a constant flow of ideas for them. The idea of brainstorming writing is to let the writing juices flow regardless of what technique is used.
